Explanation of COLORS article components:

We have prepared a detailed explanation of all possible components that may be present in the COLORS LED strip article numbers. This will help you better navigate product labeling, read technical specifications more easily, and make an informed choice.

Series/Model

  • (e.g. D880, DS8144, DJ60, DF10, H8104, C6160, PD128, LX56, DA, DR, DP):
    • D (also D8, D4, D6): General series, which can indicate standard SMD LED strips (e.g. 2835, 3528, 5050, etc.). The numbers after the letter may indicate the diode density (e.g. 80 diodes/meter, 120 diodes/meter), or the internal model code.
    • DS: May indicate a series with increased characteristics or a specific technology (e.g. DS8144 - possibly a specific LED model or their arrangement).
    • DJ: Often used for strips that are characterized by certain flexibility, thinness or other specific characteristics (e.g. DJ60, DJ120).
    • DF: Usually denotes COB (Chip-on-Board) LED strips. The letter "F" may mean "Flexible", which is typical for COB. The numbers after "DF" may indicate power or diode density.
    • H: High voltage strips (e.g. H8104) designed for direct connection to 230V mains via a rectifier, allowing longer lengths to be connected.
    • C (e.g. C8120, C6240): May indicate a new series or the use of a specific type of LED (e.g. C6 may be associated with 2216 diodes).
    • PD (e.g. PD128, PD60RGB): May indicate "Pixel Digital" or another internal series. Often found in parts with a detailed description of "chip-strip".
    • LX (e.g. LX56): Non-standard series, which may indicate linear modules or strips with special dimensions/characteristics.
    • DA (e.g. DA168RGB, DA120RGB): Probably refers to addressable (Digital/Addressable) strips, where each LED or group of LEDs can be controlled individually.
    • DR (e.g. DR880, DRF10): May indicate "Dimmable" or other specialized series.
    • DP (e.g. DP6RGBWW, DP7): May mean "Digital Pixel" or another series similar to PD, or just another internal classification.

    Voltage

    • 12V: The operating voltage of the tape is 12 Volts. Requires a 12V power supply.
    • 24V: The operating voltage of the tape is 24 Volts. Requires a 24V power supply. The most common option, allows you to connect longer lengths of tape without a significant drop in brightness.
    • 48V: The operating voltage of the tape is 48 Volts. Used for very long installations, ensuring minimal voltage loss and higher efficiency.
    • 230V (or 220V): High-voltage strip that is connected directly to the 230V network via a special rectifier. Allows you to create long lighting lines without additional power supplies, but has its own installation and safety features.

    PCB Width:

    • 4mm: Very narrow strip, ideal for thin profiles or places with limited space.
    • 5mm: Narrow strip.
    • 8mm: Standard width for most LED strips.
    • 10mm: Common width, often used for higher power or RGB strips.
    • 12mm: Typically for high power or RGBW/RGBWW strips.
    • 15mm: Wide strips, usually high power.
    • 1007mm: This is probably a typo in the article or it refers to the length of the module, not the width. The standard width is indicated in millimeters (e.g. 10mm, 12mm).

    Color temperature/Light type:

    • WW (Warm White): Warm white light (approx. 2700K-3000K), creates a cozy, relaxing atmosphere.
    • SW (Super Warm / Soft Warm): Very warm white light (approx. 2000K-2500K), sometimes called "candle" or "amber".
    • LW (Long Warm): Extremely warm white, with a very low color temperature (e.g. 1900K-2300K).
    • NW (Neutral White): Neutral white light (approx. 4000K-4500K), universal, comfortable for the eyes.
    • PW (Pure White): Pure white light (approx. 5000K), often used for work areas.
    • W (White): A universal designation for white light, which can mean Cool White (6000K-6500K) or be generic if there is only one white version. It is always better to specify the color temperature in the description.
    • DW (Day White / Daylight White): Daylight white light (approximately 5500K-6500K), bright light close to daylight.
    • GW (Golden White): Golden white, very warm shade (approximately 1900K-2000K).
    • RGB: Multi-color strip that can emit red, green and blue colors.
    • RGBW: Multi-color strip with an additional white LED (RGB + White). The color temperature of the white light is usually specified in the description or is standard (e.g. 6000K).
    • RGBWW: Multi-color strip with an additional warm white LED (RGB + Warm White).
    • RGBNW: Multi-color strip with an additional neutral white LED (RGB + Neutral White).
    • RGBLWW: RGB + Long Warm White.
    • R, G, B: Monochrome strips that emit only one color (red, green or blue).
    • S_W (Tunable White): Designation for strips with variable color temperature (Switchable White or Tunable White), where you can adjust the shade of white (e.g. from warm to cool). Often has a temperature range (e.g. 2700-6000K).

    IP Rating:

    • IP20 / IP33: Non-waterproof tape for dry indoor use.
    • IP55: Dust and splash water protection (sideways). Suitable for use in damp areas but not in direct contact with water.
    • IP65: Dust and splash water protection. Suitable for use in bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor sheds.
    • IP67: Dust and temporary submersion in water (up to 1 meter). Often used for outdoor lighting or in wet areas.
    • Nano / IP65na: A special nano-coating that provides moisture protection (usually equivalent to IP54/IP65) without the use of a silicone tube, making the strip thinner and more flexible.

    Additional characteristics/Designations:

    • CRI80 / CRI90 / ww8 / nw9 / w8 / ww9 / nw9: Indicates the Color Rendering Index (CRI). CRI80 means that objects look quite natural, CRI90 is a very high indicator that provides the most natural color reproduction. The numbers 8 or 9 after the color code (e.g. ww8, nw9) usually indicate the corresponding CRI.
    •  50m /  dp50 /  40: Indicates the length of the ribbon coil in meters (e.g. 50 meters or 40 meters). dp can be an abbreviation for "Dispenser Pack" or "Display Pack".
    • 144w / 96w / 5w / 13.5w: Can indicate the total power of the coil or the power per meter (W/m). If it is the power per meter, then it is a very important characteristic. Always specify whether it is total power or power per meter.
    • Smart / SPI: Indicates the intelligent capabilities of the strip, including support for SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) protocols for addressable control of LEDs, which allows you to create complex lighting effects.
    • COB: (appears in the description, not in the item) Indicates Chip-on-Board technology, which provides a continuous line of light without visible LED dots.
    • Chip: (appears in the description, not in the item) Indicates that the strip uses individual LED chips (not COB), usually SMD.

Using this guide, you can quickly decipher any part number and confidently choose the tape that best suits your needs.
