MEAN WELL was founded in 1982 and is one of the few manufacturers of standard power supplies in the world. According to the Micro Technology Consultant report released in March 2017, it ranks 5th among international manufacturers of power supplies (DC). Unlike the ODM/OEM-oriented business model of the top five manufacturers, MEAN WELL's own-brand standard power supplies account for almost 99% of its turnover.

MEAN WELL works with customers, suppliers, contractors and employees, building long-term trusting relationships with them based on good intentions and the principles of partner reliability. Long-term and equal cooperation with hundreds of reputable authorized distributors in various countries around the world has allowed MEAN WELL to expand and strengthen its business for three decades. In 2017, the company had a total of 3,200 employees operating from its global headquarters in New Taipei Industrial Park, Taiwan, branches and sales offices in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Suzhou in China, California in the United States, and the Netherlands in the EU, four advanced manufacturing bases in New Taipei City, Taiwan, Tianhe and Huadu Districts in Guangzhou, and Suzhou in China, and achieved a combined turnover of $927 million (NT$27.8 billion).

The computer system, which was introduced in 1991, was designed and built by MEAN WELL's IT center to meet the company's needs. The comprehensive ERP system, integrated with the network of distributors, suppliers, contractors and employees, meets all the company's requirements. It integrates international resources and effectively improves productivity and service quality.
